Welcome to Reception!
Welcome to the St.Agnes Reception class. The class teacher in Reception is Miss Masterson and the teaching assistants are Marissa Connelly and Bex Drew.
In Reception we follow the Early Years Foundation stage (EYFS) Framework. We base our activities around the three prime and four specific areas of learning which are:
Personal, social and emotional development
Communication and language,
Expressive arts and design, and Understanding the world.
Communication, language and literacy
Problem solving, reasoning and numeracy
Our activities are largely child initiated, where the children choose the activities they wish to take part in. We also have daily carpet sessions and small group adult led activities.
In reception daily phonics sessions are taught in line with the ‘Letters and Sounds’ framework. Children read with an adult twice a week and these books are also sent home for parents to practice with their child.

Although reception does not have subject books we do have ‘Busy Books’ and ‘Wow Books.’ Busy books are sent home once a week with a weekly task for children and parents to complete together. Wow books are used to put in work and photos taken in class.
In reception class we take part in forest school once a week. Forest school has its own objectives outside the EYFS frame work. The session takes place in the reception class forest area. The reception staff and all of the children participate. We encourage all parents to get involved.
