Year 3

Welcome to Year 3!

Enjoyment as well as success is our aim and we endeavour to create a calm and purposeful learning environment.
Miss Drew and Maricel Flores will be leading Year3 this year and we are looking forward to working in partnership with you.
This is a special year for many children as they will be making their First Holy Communion and we work closely with the parish to support the children in their preparation.
We follow the ‘Come and See ' scheme of work and a newsletter is sent home every term outlining the topics covered
Literacy and Numeracy
This year we will be working towards implementing the new Literacy and Numeracy curriculum. Children will be encouraged to work in groups, pairs and individually.
PE will be on a Thursday . Please ensure your child has a full PE kit.
We have many fun and exciting topics to find out about this year (see the yearly plan) and the children will be encouraged to research different areas of the Y3 curriculum.
In addition, the children learn to speak Spanish and have weekly guitar lessons led by specialist teachers.
As a part of the Egyptian topic the children in year three perform ‘Joseph and his Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat’
Children are expected to read every night with an adult and have their reading record signed. We appreciate that parents have very busy lives but research has consistently shown that children who read on a regular basis make the most progress.
Literacy and Maths homework is set on a Friday to be handed in on Monday. Sometimes the children will be asked to conduct research, make models or complete a project based on a topic. We encourage parents to take an active part in their children’s learning and support them in this.
